Conveyor lead times in 2026 are more predictable than in 2024 and 2025, but they are not short. A standard conveyor can be delivered in four to six weeks; a complete non-standard line takes 38–50 days in production, plus engineering and shipping.

Typical durations

For a standard powered roller or belt conveyor, the production time is 20–30 days, depending on the configuration and the finish. For a speed chain line with 12–16 stations, the production time is 38–45 days, including pre-assembly and run-in. For a complete line with custom fixtures and controls, 45–60 days is common.

These times assume the drawings are approved and the long-lead components are in stock or ordered. They do not include the customer's approval cycle or the shipping time.

Components that cause delay

Drives, PLCs and safety devices are the most common causes of delay. A specific drive brand or a high-tonnage stainless steel order can add two to four weeks. Custom fixtures and machined parts are the second most common cause, especially if the design is not frozen.

Shipping is the third. A 40-foot container to Europe or North America takes 30–45 days, plus port handling. A project that is planned to the production date without the shipping time will be late on site.

How to compress the schedule

Freeze the design early. A drawing that changes after the profiles are cut adds time and cost. Order the long-lead components as soon as the design is approved. Use a standard conveyor where possible; a catalogue model is faster than a custom design.

Pre-assemble and test in the supplier's plant. A line that is tested before shipment arrives with fewer site issues and a shorter commissioning time.

Procurement noteThe projects that finish on time usually have one thing in common: a single customer engineer with the authority to approve drawings. Projects with multiple approvers average two to three weeks longer.

What to put in the contract

Define the production time from the date of drawing approval, not from the order date. Define the shipping terms and the responsibility for the freight. Define the commissioning duration and the acceptance criteria. A clear contract prevents the schedule disputes that consume the time saved by a fast supplier.

Outlook

We expect lead times to remain in this range through 2026. The main risk is a sudden demand increase in battery or automotive, which could tighten the supply of drives and stainless steel. Buyers with projects in the first half of 2027 should start the design in the fourth quarter of 2026.
